How to Update Your Audi A4 MMI 3G Firmware
If you own an Audi A4 with MMI 3G navigation system, you may want to update your firmware to get the latest features and improvements. Firmware updates can enhance the performance, stability and compatibility of your MMI system, as well as enable new functions and maps. In this article, we will show you how to update your firmware in Audi MMI 3G Plus / High / Basic / Mib.
What You Need
To update your firmware, you will need the following:
A compatible SD card with at least 16 GB of free space.
A computer with an SD card reader and a software to unzip files.
The firmware files for your MMI version. You can buy them from Carsie.net or other sources. Make sure you get the right software for your MMI type and region.
An activator file to unlock the firmware update. You can also get it from Carsie.net or other sources.
A VCDS cable or a script to enable the green engineering menu on your MMI.
How to Update Your Firmware
Before you start, make sure your car battery is fully charged or connect a charger to avoid any interruption during the update process. Also, make a backup of your MMI settings and data in case something goes wrong.
Follow these steps to update your firmware:
Download the firmware files and the activator file and unzip them on your computer.
Copy the firmware files to the root folder of the SD card. Do not copy the activator file yet.
Insert the SD card into slot 1 of your MMI console.
Turn on the ignition and wait for the MMI to start.
Press the CAR and SETUP (or MENU or BACK) buttons simultaneously for a few seconds to enter the green engineering menu.
Select \"Update\" and then \"CD-ROM\" from the menu.
You will see a list of categories that firmware will update. Scroll to the bottom and press \"Start update\".
The update process will take about 30-60 minutes depending on what needs to be updated. Do not turn off the ignition or remove the SD card during this time.
When the update is done, you will see a confirmation screen. Press \"Continue\".
Remove the SD card and reboot the MMI by pressing and holding the volume knob for a few seconds.
Insert the SD card again and copy the activator file to the root folder of the SD card.
Insert the SD card into slot 1 of your MMI console again.
Turn on the ignition and wait for the MMI to start.
You will see a prompt asking you to press the center knob. Press it and wait for a few seconds.
You will see another confirmation screen. Remove the SD card and reboot the MMI again.
Your firmware update is now complete. You can check your firmware version by entering the green engineering menu again and looking at the \"Most Trans\" field.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any problems during or after the update process, here are some possible solutions:
If you get an error code 141 or a file corruption error, it means that there is something wrong with your SD card or the files on it. Try formatting your SD card and copying the files again, or use another SD card. Make sure you do not use a MAC computer to unzip or copy the files, as it may cause hidden files or folders that interfere with the update process.
If you lose access to the green engineering menu after updating to K0900 firmware, you can restore it by using a VCDS cable or a script. You can find more details on how to do this aa16f39245
